Inamori Fellowship Program - Call for Applications

The Division of Graduate and Research Affairs is pleased to announce the Inamori Fellowship program.

Dr. Kazuo Inamori, founder of Kyocera Corporation, has contributed funds to SDSU that our office will use to provide stipends to degree-seeking graduate students. The program will continue for at least three years. Ten Inamori Fellowships will be awarded annually in open competition.

Award

Each Inamori Fellow will receive $5,000 for a 12-month period. It is our intention that this will augment any other support the student is receiving. There are no duties associated with receiving a fellowship, but fellows will submit a brief summary of their activities at the end of the award period. Fellows may apply for successive annual awards through open competition. Recipients will be named Inamori Fellows at SDSU.

Eligibility

SDSU degree-seeking graduate students may compete for an Inamori Fellowship. Applicants must have at least two semesters remaining in their program.

Criteria for Review

Members of the Student Research Committee will review Inamori Fellowship applications. The committee includes representation from the Graduate Student Association, the Graduate Council and the Division of Research Affairs. The application will include statements of:

  • Work completed and planned
  • Academic background
  • Scholarly accomplishments (e.g., awards, publications, presentations)
  • Training environment
  • Faculty mentor recommendation

To Apply

  • Complete the Inamori Fellowship application (doc)

  • Save the completed application as a PDF file and e-mail the document to the Student Research Committee at dra@mail.sdsu.edu.

  • Applications must be received by Oct. 15. Awards will be announced in November 2009.
