Ann de Peyster, 2006-2007 Alumni Award
Dr. Ann de Peyster has been a tremendous teacher, a competent and worthy researcher, and a leader of faculty. Her star has been shining since she first arrived in San Diego to single handedly build the GSPH's toxicology program from scratch, continuing through to today with her current leadership role as Interim Director of the School.
Trained at Pomona College, where she is still an active member of the alumni, and UC Berkeley, where she earned graduate degrees in environmental health and toxicology, she has been associate director of the GSPH, and Acting Head of the Division of Occupational and Environmental Health (OEH). Her teaching efforts run from advising to curriculum development, and from the laboratory bench to lecturing. She always has time for students.
Ann has attracted research funds, published in peer reviewed publications, and presented at professional meetings. She has held leadership positions in various professional associations, published about thirty five articles in such peer reviewed publications as Toxicological Sciences, Mutation Research, the New England Journal of Medicine, the Journal of Environmental Health, and the Journal of Occupational Medicine. She is one of the editors of the Encyclopedia of Toxicology. Dr. de Peyster's honors and awards include the Outstanding Professor award from OEH, twice, the Society of Toxicology Public Communications Award, the 2001 CHHS Outstanding Faculty Award, and the GSPH "Golden Apple" outstanding teaching award.
