Types of Gifts
- Cash Gift - A cash gift is the simplest and most direct way to donate, and the contribution is fully deductible for individuals who itemize on their federal income tax return. Cash gifts can be made online or by sending a check made payable to The Campanile Foundation to the College of Health and Human Services, Development Office, San Diego State University, 5500 Campanile Drive, San Diego, California 92182-4124.
- Gift Pledge - A pledge is a formal statement of your intention to make a gift to SDSU. It may be followed by an immediate gift, or it may simply confirm your intention to make a gift in the future. Many donors choose to complete their gift pledge by making regular payments over a period of time, thereby allowing them to give more generously. Whenever possible, The Campanile Foundation encourages full payment of pledges within five years of their original commitment.
- Endowment Gift - An endowment gift demonstrates your long-term commitment to the university. An endowment is a fund that is maintained in perpetuity, with a portion of the annual investment return being used for the purposes specified by the donor. The rest of the investment yield is returned to the principal so that, over the years, the fund can grow. Such endowments, which typically bear the name of the donor(s), reflect your interests and serve as an enduring testament to your generosity.
- Named Gift - A wide range of gift opportunities are available for donors who wish to establish enduring tributes to individuals, families, or organizations.
- Memorial and Honor Gifts - Many opportunities exist to make gifts in memory or in honor of a loved one or a friend. These gifts can be recognized in various facilities throughout our campus.
- Planned Gift - You may wish to retain an interest in your gift, such as the right to receive income from it, or to give through your estate. Under certain circumstances, your gift may entitle you to tax benefits. Learn more about Planned Giving.
- Gift-in-Kind - Through a gift-in-kind, a donor can help the university strengthen its programs and improve its facilities so that we can offer the best possible educational experience to our students. A gift-in-kind is a tangible item or product which, once donated, can either be used by the university or sold to an outside party with the proceeds benefiting philanthropic programs. A gift-in-kind allows a donor to receive the benefit of a charitable contribution without drawing on cash flow and cash reserves.
- Matching Gift - You may increase your gifts to the university through a corporate matching gift. As a benefit to its employees, some companies "match" charitable donations to certain types of organizations. Depending on the company's program, not only cash gifts, but also other gift types such as life insurance, deferred gifts, gifts-in-kind, securities, and volunteer time, may also be eligible for corporate matching.
Donor Acknowledgement
- Donor Recognition - The College of Health and Human Services is grateful for the support it receives from its alumni and friends. One of the ways we express our appreciation is by listing the names of donors in various publications. If you do not want your name to be published, please indicate your preference at the time of your donation.
- Giving Anonymously - A donor who does not wish to receive public recognition for a gift may request one of several different levels of anonymity. If you desire complete anonymity, you may make a gift through a third party to ensure your name will not be associated with the contribution. If you simply want to avoid public notice of your gift, we will honor that wish by not printing your name in any published donor listings or news releases. Please advise us of your preferences, and we will make every effort to honor your wishes.
