The Undergraduate International Experience provides students with an opportunity to learn beyond the classroom. Immersion in a foreign country offers a chance for students to gain exciting and new knowledge, resulting in a life-changing experience.

Beginning Fall 2010, incoming CHHS undergraduate students in Social Work, Public Health, Nursing and Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences who are brand new to SDSU are required to participate in an international experience prior to graduation. This includes all transfer students and first-time freshman.

Beginning Fall 2012, incoming CHHS undergraduate students in Exercise and Nutritional Sciences who are brand new to SDSU will be required to participate in an international experience prior to graduation. [see requirement details...]

Step 1: Apply for a passport.

Students without a current passport should apply for a passport immediately.

Step 2: Meet with your Academic Advisor

Determine an ideal or optimal time to go abroad depending on your major choice.

Step 3: Meet with the International Coordinator

CHHS International Coordinator, Suzanne Baker, can guide you through the options provided by the CHHS. All students must either attend one of the group information sessions or schedule an individual meeting.

Step 4: Consider HHS 350

HHS 350: Applied Health & Human Services, satisfies the CHHS Undergraduate International Requirement, with sections going to China, Thailand, Mexico, and India!

Step 5: Research All Options

When looking at all your international options, consider:

Program length/time: Summer? Winter break? Spring Break?
Do you want to take courses related to your chosen major or minor?
Do you want to take courses for elective credit?
Do you want to study with other SDSU students? With other international students?
Do you want to take courses in English? In a foreign language?
What is your budget?
Transfer students: Does the program you have chosen provide transfer or resident credit? Note: HHS 350 provides resident credit.
