- Q1: Is an Undergraduate International Experience required to graduate?
All undergraduates in the College of Health & Human Services are expected to have a qualified international experience.
Starting with freshmen and transfer students entering SDSU in Fall 2010, an international experience is required prior to graduation, and will appear on your "Major Academic Plan" and "Degree Audit Report."
- Q2: How can I meet the travel expectation/requirement?
Any international travel experience that includes an academic component for credit and involves a total travel time of two weeks (certain exceptions apply such as the intensive travel component of HHS 350) will meet the requirement. The study abroad section of this web site has links to many programs. Check with your academic advisor or the CHHS International Programs Office if you have any questions about how to meet this requirement. Keep in mind that meeting this requirement will entail careful advanced planning and special considerations such as selecting an acceptable experience, obtaining a passport, making travel arrangements, and applying for financial aid.
- Q3: Will I need a passport?
Yes, travel to all countries requires a passport.
- Q4: Are there fees?
In addition to the normal SDSU registration fees, each section will have its own program and travel fees. Check the listing for your program of interest. You can request an increase to your financial aid to cover your study abroad expenses.
All students are eligible to apply for the Associated Students Study Abroad scholarship. See the financial aid page. If approved, you will receive a minimum of $500 towards your international experience.
- Q5: How do I enroll?
For the HHS 350 course, simply register in the desired section as you would for any other SDSU course. Other study abroad/travel study options will have their own program-specific enrollment processes.
- Q6: Can students with disabilities participate?
We make every effort to accomodate all students. Just contact us to let us know what your specific concerns are. Additional online resources specific to students with disabilities include:
