Mary Alice Haswell Anderson, BSN, 1961. Favorite Memory of SDSU: Performing in the "Spring Sings". Achievements: Worked for San Diego County as a PHN for 31 years. Last 12 years was the PHN Manager of Central Region Public Health Center. Married 43 years - 3 children - 6 grandchildren.
Suzan (Oklin) Bartlett, MSW, 1983. Favorite Memory of SDSU: Studying on the lawn - soaking up the sun. Achievements: Moved to WA in 1994; bought a home and remodeled it to house 6 elderly ladies. Licensed by WA state, we are staffed 24 hours-a-day and provide care for frail elderly who cannot live alone and are not ready for a nursing home.
Roberta C. Berry, MSW, 2000. Achievements: Selected as a member of the Child Welfare League of America's Mid-Atlantic Region's Public Policy committee and the State Leader for the District of Columbia.
Virginia Briggs, BA/MSW, 1971/1984. Favorite Memory of SDSU: The great help all the professors were. Achievements: 21 years as a medical social worker - 11.5 years as hospital work. Director of Social Services in 2 convalescent hospitals for 14 years. Always active in community agency.
Kimberly Byrd, MSW, 1996. Favorite Memory of SDSU: Hanging out at Monty's Den with friends between finals my last semester of my Master's degree. Achievements: I was a Title IV-E student and spent 6.5 years working for Riverside County CPS after graduating with my master's. I started with Yolo County about 15 months ago and am currently the Division Manager over CPS.
Neremiah Joakim Sanchez Castano, BSN, 2003. Favorite Memory of SDSU: Making friends and serving the community through various involvements at SDSU. Achievements: Completed Naval Officer School in Pensacola, Florida, in February. Now working in the PACU/Recovery at Mercy Hospital. Starting graduate school at SDSU this fall to pursue MSN.
Vicki E. Curwen, BA/MA, 1984/1988. Favorite Memory of SDSU: Finding life-long friends among the students and faculty. Clinical practicum. Achievements: Managed heavy caseloads at Cajon Valley USD schools. Started up Speech and Language Services at Cuyamaca College. Supervised Comm Dis students at SDSU clinic.
Mike Doering, MPH, 1989. Favorite Memory of SDSU: 1968 Hardy Tower climb with a friend. Achievements: 16 years at Cal OSHA doing meaningful work. Refinery inspections, accident investigations at all sorts of workplaces.
Dennis D. Durby, MSW, 1988. Achievements: Owner/Director of Alta Institute, Inc. in Fullerton, California since 9/1994, working in domestic violence, child abuse and addictions. Taught part-time at USC/School of Social Work from 1991-2000 (policy, research, stats). Moved to London, England in June 2005. Engaged in private psychotherapy practice and work as a consultant/advisor to various domestic abuse programmes in the southeast UK.
Dianne Durrenberger, MSW, 2001. Favorite Memory of SDSU: "Walkin' the Hallway" with my friends and talking with professors. Laughter and tears with fellow interns in field placements. Achievements: Adjunct professor at undergraduate alma mater teaching ethics, adolescent development, psychology of loss and interpersonal communication. Daily learning the delicate balance of family, career and personal development.
Sara H. Fainstein, MPH, 1983. Achievements: I continue working with cancer patients and their loved ones. I am currently involved with patient service with an organization that matches patients to services. I am also facilitating support groups for people living with cancer, in both English and Spanish, as well as providing stress management for cancer patients and their loved ones. I am looking forward to celebrating 12 and 13 years of being in remission from breast cancer.
Reverend Victoria Frieheit, BA, 1981. Favorite Memory of SDSU: Social work classes, Jewish holiday classes, medieval English class. Achievements: Former stockbroker, now United Church of Christ pastor. Founder "new" Network of Executive Women. Founder Tombstone Arts Festival.
Mary E. Gilder, BS/MSW, 1996/1998. Favorite Memory of SDSU: The wonderful relationships created and the continuous motivation provided by my mentor Dr. Ronald Griffin. Achievements: Currently employed as a Clinical Supervisor for the Department of Drugs and Alcohol. The position entails the signing off of treatment plans, case consultations, and individual supervision with each counselor, assessment of case files, facilitation of trainings, providing individual and group therapy. Prior employment includes 6 years of service with the County of San Diego. The County of San Diego provided a wonderful opportunity for personal and professional growth; a dynamic experience.
John O. Green, BS/MA, 1973/1977. Favorite Memory of SDSU: Dr. Steve Bender's courses. Achievements: Worked as a grad student worker with the San Diego County Department of Substance Abuse. Three years in Washington, D.C. with the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA). Principal investigator on two NIH grants (Software templates for estimating drug abuse prevalence and the Ethnographer's Toolbox). Currently a statistician with the US Department of the Navy. Ready to retire in 3 years from the government with 30 years.
Juan G. Ibarra, MSW/MPH, 2004. Achievements: Entered UCB SPH DrPH program in 2005. Expected date of completion is 5/2007. Will focus on HIV/AIDS among Latinos for my dissertation.
Marilyn Johnson-Kozlow, PhD, 2003. Favorite Memory of SDSU: My husband taking my graduation picture in front of the SDSU Campanile, surrounded by roses in full bloom. Achievements: I am busy working on publications, grant submissions and assisting in an intervention study targeting children exposed to secondhand smoke.
Kathryn Marie (Buchanan) Luciano, BSN, 1965. Favorite Memory of SDSU: Graduating. Achievements: Married Richard Luciano in 1970. Birth of daughter, Stephanie, in 1974. 34 years of continuous and progressive employment in acute care hospitals. Career advancements as a staff nurse, inservice education director, mid-level nursing manager, Chief Nurse Executive (16 years) and Chief Operating Officer (8 years). Certified by the American Nurses Association as a CNAA nursing administrator-advanced, 1980-2000. 100-plus speaking engagements, guest lecturer/faculty at CSULA, UCLA, APU; nursing consultant. 11 publications. Numerous professional organization memberships and awards. Recipient, SDSU School of Nursing, 1991 Alumnus of the Year Award.
Jason Mills, BS, 1992. Favorite Memory of SDSU: Meeting my wife (future)! Achievements: Have worked in healthcare industry for past 12 years in San Diego - Scripps Hospital Fitness Program, Health Net health promotion program and now medical supply/equipment sales for past 6 years.
Gayle Griggs Pepper, BSN, 1964. Favorite Memory of SDSU: Homecoming queen '63. Achievements: Owner - Health Care Center for Women - 26 years.

Cynthia T. (Strayer) Rose, BSN, 1973. Favorite Memory of SDSU: Saturday "hamburger nights" at the dining hall; walking across the bridge from Zura Hall to campus; being the (surprised) valedictorian of the class of '73. Achievements: Good health, 2 great kids, and a 33 year career in nursing. No special honors or promotions, but I'm there each day doing patient care, which is why I began in the first place.

Nancy Hardin Temple, BSN, 1992. Favorite Memory of SDSU: My favorite memory was being in my sorority Chi Omega and my nursing friends. Achievements: I just got married April 30, 2005.
Laurie Friday Walsh, BSN, 1986. Achievements: I work as a geriatric nurse practitioner for Kaiser Permanente and am a part-time instructor in the School of Nursing at CSU, Sacramento.
