Advisory Board Reconvenes

On May 24, 2005, the CHHS Dean's Advisory Board convened for its first meeting with the new dean, Marilyn Newhoff, at the University Club.

The purpose of the meeting was to provide board members with the dean's vision for the future of the CHHS and to solicit their input and involvement. The CHHS Advisory Board members possess valuable expertise and knowledge and have agreed to promote the goals of the college: academic excellence, collaboration with the community, and internationalization. The board will work collaboratively with the dean in facilitating partnership opportunities, developing and implementing college initiatives, advising the college in public relations and outreach efforts and assisting with fund-raising.

The board consists of nine community representatives: Steve Escoboza, CEO, Health Association of San Diego and Imperial Counties; Dan Gross, CEO, Sharp Memorial Hospital; Robert Ito, CEO, Ito, Girard & Associates; Napoleon Jones, U.S. District Judge; Jewel Kelley; Ed Martinez, CEO, San Ysidro Health Center; Deven Parlikar, Executive Director, Indian Health Council; Rene Santiago, Deputy Director for Central/South Regions, San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency; and Sadanand Singh, Chairman and CEO, Plural Publishing Group.

The next CHHS Dean's Advisory Board meeting will be September 27, 2005. The topics of discussion will be the strategic positioning of the college within the local community and assistance with key initiatives.
