1970s
Virginia Smith Richardson, BA/MA, 1949/1970, SLHS. Favorite SDSU Memory: The long talks and friendships (some for life) over coffee in the café and on the porch of the Little Theatre.
Achievements: Working with the first group of aphasic children in the city (San Diego) schools. After retiring, writing a food column and publishing a cookbook.
Lottie Adele Holt, MSW, 1967, SSW. Favorite SDSU Memory: Graduation Day, June 1967.
Achievements: In Riverside, CA, I was the first CPS supervisor in the Public Social Service Department. For 18 years I was a medical social worker at Loma Linda University Medical Center, Loma Linda, CA. I was a field instructor for students from several schools, including San Diego State University. For several years I was a contract instructor in the Social Work Department at La Sierra College, La Sierra, CA.
Daniel Ruops, MSW, 1974, SSW. Favorite SDSU Memory: Field placement at Mexican American Advisory Committee. Achievements: LCSW; Pupil/Personnel Certificate; climbed Mt. McKinley twice.
Mary Landa, MSW, 1977, SSW. Favorite SDSU Memory: Meeting my husband, Victor Landa. We have been married 41 years. Achievements: Social worker for San Diego County Health & Human Services for 37 years. Retired in 2003. Currently working as a psychotherapist.
1980s
Denel Lupiani-Duprez, MSW, 1981, SSW. Favorite SDSU Memory: Studying with Diane Hove Heltsley for exams in the amphitheatre and freaking out! Achievements: My husband, Dr. Jerry Duprez, and I have purchased a building for our counseling practice, Haven Psychological Associates. We have owned the practice for 18 years. Our daughter, Nicole, is 19 and beginning her sophomore year at Azusa Pacific University. Our 15-year-old son Christopher is a sophomore at Los Osos High School in Alta Loma. We celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary in June 2005.
Loni Shutler, BA, 1985, SSW. Favorite SDSU Memory: Receiving my diploma right before going into labor with my first child (delivered next day). Achievements: After San Diego State, I began a career in neuropsychology at the VA Hospital in La Jolla, CA. After 5 years, my family and I moved to Florida and I received my master's degree in business and have worked in medical case management ever since. I have four children ages 20, 17, 15, and 8.
Penny Cohen, MA, 1985, SLHS. Favorite SDSU Memory: I was l lucky enough to learn directly from the tops in the field, including Hodson, Newhoff, Launer and Dworkin. Achievements: After working for school district and as a consultant for 15 years, I finally started my own private practice which has been thriving for the past 3 years. I've also started a new children's educational and interactive DVD series called Tot-A-Doodle-Do for children ages 2-7 years.
Donald Haverkamp, BS 1989, MPH, 2003, GSPH. Achievements: I am currently completing a fellowship with the Public Health Prevention Service, CDC. I am doing a two year assignment with the Indian Health Service, in the Division of Epidemiology and Disease Control, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
1990s
Laurin Comeau, BSN, 1990, SON. Favorite SDSU Memory: The beach and the weather! Achievements: OCN certification since 1997; CPR Instructor, Infusion Room RN in the Norris Cotton Cancer Center at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in NH--I truly enjoy working at such a special place with such an extraordinary patient population!
Stefanie (Stocek) Dawson, BSN, 1992, SON. Favorite SDSU Memory: Studying with my "nursing buddies" -- Christy, Stacey, Jen, Nancy, etc. -- I miss you all! Achievements: I got married in August 2004 and had my honeymoon baby in May 2005. Just went per diem after 13 years of being full-time for Sharp Healthcare.
Melissa Novaes, MSW, BA, 1995, Gero. Favorite SDSU Memory: The friends and professors - I had a wonderful time learning and what a beautiful place to be! Achievements: I received my MSW 2 1/2 years ago at CSUS and have been working for Sutter Health 8+ years now. I have two beautiful babies (Brady, 22 months and Drew, 4 months). I work part-time and love being a parent.
Terri (Elizabeth) Walls, BSN, 1997, SON. Favorite SDSU Memory: Friendships that are still there for me in times of stress - Yes, working can be as stressful as nursing school. Achievements: I've been working as an ER nurse for 5-1/2 years in many locations overseas, as I follow my husband in the Marine Corps. Certifications - CEN, TNCC, PALS, ACLS Instructor
Jennifer Golgert, BSN, 1998, SON. Favorite SDSU Memory: Maternity clinical rotation. Achievements: Since graduation, I have lived in 9 different states working as a traveling NICU nurse. From glacial Alaska to the U.S. Virgin Islands in the Caribbean -- the adventures are awesome and the babies are as cute as can be!

Currently working for the State of California handling unemployment insurance claims. Got married, son just turned 7! Bought a house in California and in Nevada. The last 3 years I visited the beautiful country of Thailand (Phuket, Krabi, Chang Mai Islands), Hong Kong and Philippines.

Currently in psychotherapy practice with children, adolescents, and adults. Enrolled in PhD program in Buddhist Psychology at San Diego University of Integrative Studies.

Kelly L. Focht, MSW, 2002, SSW. Achievements: Promotion to Chief Executive Officer of The George G. Glenner Alzheimer's Family Centers, Inc.
Marquet Johnson, BSN, 2005, SON. Favorite SDSU Memory: My first semester in Dr. Romig's class. It was such a wonderful, nurturing and exciting experience. I met people in that class that I am sure I will stay in touch with for a very long time. Achievements: I am applying to Point Loma Nazarene University for my MSN in nursing education. I will be inducted into Sigma Theta Tau in April of this year.
