A presentation entitled, "Microbial Threats to Health: Can We Weather The Next Perfect Storm? " will be presented by Mark Smolinski, M.D., M.P.H, Senior Program Officer from the Institute of Medicine (IOM) and senior author of "Microbial Threats to Health: Emergence, Detection and Response".
This study was a result of the IOM team reviewing the landmark 1992 report on Emerging Infections and has resulted in ground breaking conclusions and recommendations including the need for a global response to infectious diseases, the need to bolster the U.S. public health infrastructure, the necessity of enhancing infectious disease reporting and the need to improve the education and training of the microbial threat work force.
Dr. Smolinski will examine the current state of knowledge and policy related to microbial threats of interest to students, healthcare providers, epidemiologist, researchers, policy makers and health officials.
The presentation will be held on Wednesday, July 23rd 1:30pm-3:00pm at the SDSU Aztec Athletic Center (directions and parking). Space is limited and participants will be accepted on a first come first serve basis.
