Master of Social Work Degree and Juris Doctor Degree (MSW/JD)

MSW/JD Applicants

For the MSW/JD, two separate application processes must be followed:
  • SDSU School of Social Work MSW application (see below), and
  • California Western School of Law application

Applicants for the dual-degree program may substitute the results of the LSAT exam for the GRE exam.

Applicants should indicate on the appropriate section of each application that they are applying for the concurrent dual degrees MSW/JD program.

MSW Program Admissions

  • MSW Admission Criteria

      Requirements for Admissions to MSW Program:
      • Meet requirements for admission to Graduate Study at SDSU.
      • Hold a Bachelor's degree with a liberal arts foundation from an accredited college or university.
      • Undergraduate GPA of 3.0 in the last 60 units (90 quarter), but not less than a minimum of a 2.85 GPA.
      • Submit results of the GRE Examination and TOEFL Examination (if applicable). (MSW/JD applications may substitute the LSAT Exam Score).
      • Complete SDSU School of Social Work Application form which includes: Supplemental information, Liberal Arts Perspective Form; Personal/Professional Statement; Letters of Recommendation; Education and Experience; Application Information Certification.
      • Volunteer, internship, and/or paid human services experience (minimum of 500 hours).
      • Complete an undergraduate statistics course.

  • Admissions Timeline

      2008 Application Due Dates:
      • 1/15/08: 2-Year Plan, Advanced Standing Program, International, & Transfer Applicants (Priority Due Date)
      • 4/1/08: 3-Year, 4-Year Plan, and Dual Degree Program Applicants
      • 5/1/08: Imperial Valley Campus MSW starting summer 2008

  • Information Sessions Scheduled for the Fall 2008 Semester

      Prospective MSW students should attend an information session. All sessions will be in SDSU's Hepner Hall 134 at 1:00 pm:
      • September 26
      • October 24
      • November 21
      • December 12
      • January 30
