30 members of “Students HEAL” recently visited Thailand, providing medical care and education to the underserved. From January 3 to January 18, 2014, they visited elementary schools, high schools, community clinics and monk temples.
Students provided home health care exams, allowing them to do health screenings in the countryside. Students also had the opportunity to work with nursing students and medical students from Thailand, learning from each other while providing care and physical exams.
The students were accompanied by two faculty members from the SDSU School of Nursing (Sue Bass and Sherry Kari) as well as five doctors from Kaiser, Dr. Dennis Andrade, and Marlene Ruiz a supporter of the SDSU School of Nursing and employee of Kaiser.
By embarking upon this international learning experience, students within the SDSU College of Health & Human Services satisfied their Undergraduate International Experience requirement.
