International Volunteer HQ (IVHQ) is a world leading volunteer travel company, working in over 40 destinations around the world, placing thousands of volunteers abroad every year. Known for having some of the most affordable programs and safe volunteer experiences, thousands of San Diego State University students travel abroad through this company annually. This year, IVHQ offered two San Diego State University students the opportunity to contribute to meaningful community projects in one of 40+ destinations through the IVHQ SDSU Volunteer Abroad Scholarship. The award was open to students in all majors participating in a 2 week IVHQ program at their preferred destination and project of their choosing. This year, both scholarship award recipients were students from the College of Health and Human Services. Below are their biographies and details about their future volunteer abroad programs.

Amairani Grover: My name is Amairani Grover and I just completed my second year as a nursing major as SDSU. Nursing has always been a passion of mine, but I never imagined I would have the opportunity to take my passion and apply it elsewhere! This summer, I will be volunteering abroad in San Jose, Costa Rica through a program called IVHQ. As a volunteer on the healthcare project, I will have the opportunity to provide support and assistance to the surrounding community, as well as gain insight into the healthcare system in Costa Rica. I’m looking forward to enhance my learning, and I know that I will find this experience humbling and rewarding!
Tina Munoz: I am a RN-BSN student and will be completing my classes in Fall 2018 and walking in Spring 2019. I have been working at Sharp Grossmont for 4 years and have been an RN there for the last 10 months. For my study abroad with IVHQ, I will be teaching English in a summer camp program to children, some of which are newly immigrated. My husband will also be accompanying me and volunteering as well so the scholarship is really helpful!
