HHS 350 – Vietnam

Want to do something GREAT this spring?  How about learning about the ancient history of Vietnam?

HHS 350 is a 3-unit, GE course that meets the SDSU Explorations B (Social and Behavioral Sciences) and the Cultural Diversity requirements, and includes a 9-day international experience in Hanoi, Vietnam!

Lectures from SDSU faculty during the semester-long, ONLINE course will include the following topics:

  • historical aspects of international health and human services
  • economic development and health and social science
  • nutrition in a developing country
  • globalization, health, and HIV/AIDS


  • ONLINE course throughout Spring 2017 semester
  • Students must attend 3 mandatory, in-person, pre-departure meetings on the SDSU campus:
    • Friday, February 3, 2017, 12-1:30 pm
    • Friday, February 24, 2017, 12-1:30 pm
    • Friday March 10, 2017, 12-1:30 pm
  • 9-day international field experience: Saturday, March 25, 2017 through Sunday, April 2, 2017 (NOTE: most students will depart San Diego on Friday, March 24, 2017)

Housing & Meals

Students will stay in a hotel (shared room) in Hanoi. Breakfast and lunch are included on most days along with 2 group dinners.


3 units of SDSU resident credit.  This course satisfies SDSU’s GE Explorations Area B (Social and Behavioral Sciences), Cultural Diversity and CHHS International Experience requirements


Program fee: $885 (based on enrollment of at least 30 students).

  • Program fee includes accommodation, some meals, in-country transportation, and activities
  • Program fee excludes SDSU tuition, mandatory international health insurance (approximately $60), airfare, visa (approximately $90), and personal expenses

Non-refundable program fee due in full by January 18, 2017 in order to hold your space in the class. 

NOTE: Program fee payment can be made in Cash, Check or Debit ONLY! Credit cards not accepted at the Cashier’s window

NOTE: Due to processing time to apply for and receive your travel visa, students MUST already have a passport to apply to this program.

  • Majors outside of CHHS are not eligible to enroll in this program.
