Imperial Valley to National Borders: Shilo Williams named NRHA Fellow 2025
Congratulations to Shiloh A. Williams, PhD., assistant professor at SDSU’s School of Nursing Imperial Valley, on receiving a prestigious 2025 National Rural Health Association Fellowship.
The NRHA is a national organization dedicated to bringing together the voices of rural communities to address their unique health-related issues through advocacy, education, research, and leadership.
As one of just 18 NRHA fellows selected this year, Williams aims to build her network with health leaders, legislators, and clinicians to address rural health needs across national border communities.
“Our national fellowship team will collaborate to provide research, guidance, and future policy language to address some of the most pressing rural health issues while simultaneously receiving intense rural leadership training,” explained Williams.
Specifically, Williams research focuses on health literacy, “an essential factor in improving health outcomes” within predominantly Hispanic, Spanish-speaking populations. She also co-directs the SDSU Imperial Valley RISE Center, collaborates on cancer care initiatives, and facilitates strategic programs to expand healthcare access and the workforce in Imperial County.
“I am excited to contribute to the meaningful work being done by NRHA and to represent SDSU at this important table,” said Williams.
