Governor Newsom Announces Appointments

Hala Madanat, of San Diego, has been appointed to the Independent Citizens’ Oversight Committee. Madanat serves as Vice President for Research and Innovation and is a Distinguished Professor of Health Promotion and Behavioral Science at San Diego State University. Madanat's earlier positions include Director and Associate Director for the SDSU School of Public Health, and core-investigator of the Institute for Behavioral and Community Health. Madanat is a member of the American Public Health Association and Biocom California, and a Board Member for the San Diego Cyber Center for Excellence. Madanat earned a Ph.D. in Sociology and a Master of Science in Community Health Sciences, both from Brigham Young University, and a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from the University of Jordan. This position does not require Senate confirmation.
